Fashion on a budget

10 years ago, I could never afford to purchase high end, or couture clothing.  On occasion, I found a good deal At Ross, Marshalls, or some other outlet.  For that reason, I was always bargain hunting eagerly awaiting my shopping equivalent to winning the lottery.  Most of my shopping endeavors, entailed scouring rack upon rack of horrid clothing, often cheaply made, ripped, or even stained.  Yuck.
I love finding a good deal!  That’s one reason why I love shopping online.  Online shopping allows shoppers to find great deals on luxury clothing.  One may also research the best price before purchasing an item.
So for all of my fellow bargain hunters, a compilation of my favorite places to get pretty things online:

Happy bargain hunting!

Attention All Curly Girls!

Curly hair is beautiful.  Tons of people who do not have curly hair would love to have curly hair.  Unfortunately, those of us that do have curly hair may spend a lifetime hating our hair.  This is not necessary!  Curly hair is beautiful, and it is my passion to teach those with curly hair not only to embrace their curls but to get their curls to their optimum potential.
http://www.naturallycurly.com  is a site where curly gals (and guy’s perhaps?) share their tips on products, styles, and more.  The site will walk you through pictures and questions so that you may identify and classify your curls by your hair texture, density and type of curl.  Once you have determined your hair type, you can search for product recommendations based on your hair type and connect with others’ who have similar hair type.  Users swap styling tips, hair stylist reviews, etc.
I have so much info to share about curly hair but for now I will leave you with an awesome book recommendation.  The book is called, “Curly Girl” and was written by Lorraine Massey.

I have taken classes at her salon in New York, and though it sounds cheesy, the classes were life changing.  I also use and sell her product line that was developed specifically for curly hair.  It is called DevaCurl, and I have many clients who love it!  Lorraine just released a second Curly Girl book and I am dying to read it.  Though the pictures are a little dated, I am especially smitten with the original book because it explains how to concoct inexpensive hair treatments, masks, etc with ingredients that you may already have at home!  I highly recommend this book to anyone with curly or wavy hair.  If you do not want to buy a copy, check your local library or swing by my studio and soak up everything this great read has to offer.

Dry Shampoo is My Knight in Shining Armor

If you are a lady on the go, dry shampoo is a must!  It is perfect for those mornings that you hit snooze one too many times.  Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo To Go absorbs oil and dirt and has a lovely lemon verbena scent that smells like freshly shampooed hair.  Oscar Blandi has a powder  and an aerosol version.  I prefer the powder over the aerosol; I get many more applications per bottle when using the powder.
The best part—this Oscar Blandi dry shampoo contains NO sulfate or parabens!  As we all know, I really hate America’s addiction to traditional shampoos, and dry shampoo is a great way to wean yourself from washing your hair daily.

Tips for using dry shampoo

Use dry shampoo on dry hair- duh.

ALWAYS hold the bottle of shampoo 8-10 inches from your scalp.  There is a tendency to hold the bottle really close to your scalp.  You want the powder to disperse across your scalp.   Holding the bottle too close to your head will cause areas of excessive amount of product in the hair.  Your locks will look dull and can even look white if you are not careful.

Never spray/pour dry shampoo directly on your part or to the visible surface layer of your hair.  That way if you use too much product it will not be visible.  So, if you are wearing your hair down then part your hair to the left of where you will part your hair that day and apply the shampoo.  Then comb the shampoo towards your part to distribute and absorb the dirt and grime.  Repeat on the right side of your part.  If you have a fringe that you wear on your face (ex: a side bang, or visor bang) lift your bangs up and distribute the shampoo along your hairline.  If you are wearing your bangs back (ex: in a ponytail) then do not put the shampoo along the hairline.  Put it further back and comb it through towards the hairline.
